Amanda Gorman, Youth Poet Laureate of the United States of America, visits Medford Middle School students

The McGlynn Middle School and Andrews Middle School 8th grade classes were blessed to hear a presentation by the first-ever Youth Poet Laureate of the United States of America at the McGlynn Middle School on Friday, November 15th. Amanda Gorman has been called “the next great figure of poetry in the U.S.” Amanda, a current senior at Harvard University, spoke to the 8th-grade class that morning!

The assembly was started with remarks by Principal Nick Tucci to introduce Amanda Gorman

During the assembly, Amanda recited her own award-winning poetry and performed her own rap lyrics. She challenged students to put their pen to paper during the assembly and modeled how students could write their own poetry. Amanda interacted with the audience of over 300 middle school students providing them poignant and constructive feedback on their own poetic writings.
